Script problems

I have suddenly encountered problems using internet banking and other sites
for reasons I can't understand. One word that keeps displaying when pages
don't come up is "script". I tried to run my anti-virus software but the
window appears blank. Then I tried to use system restore to go back to when
the computer was working fine, but when I try to go through the "Help and
Support" option a window keeps popping up with the heading "Internet Explorer
Script Error". When I try to open system restore through the "Start" option
the window coms up blank and I can't do anything to restore the system.

I have no idea what to do and it is clearly effecting much of what I use the
computer for. Any help would be appreciated.

Reboot into safe mode, do system restore instead of actually entering safe
mode and go back to a previous date there.
