recently i had internet connection problems on my, dont laugh, 486. WELL ITS MY ONE I SET UP FOR MY SISTER
It would drop out after usally 4 minutes. I phoned up and the guy told me to enter a script in the modem propities. It forced the modem to only connect at 28.8bps. Now thats its working again do i have to enter another script to put it back at 56bps?

GO TO YOUR MODEM OPTIONS,CLICK ON TABS {MODEM}{PROPERTIES}{ADVANCED} IN THE "Extra initialization commands :" box type in: ATZ+DCS=3;W2S7=60;+MS=V90;+H=
This command will
(ATZ) = GETS MODEMS' ATTENTION and RESETS TO FACTORY DEFAULT SETTINGS
(DCS+3) = UPSTREAM and DOWN STREAM DATA FLO
(W2S7=60) = WILL MAKE MODEM WAIT 60 sec. FOR IP CONNECTION before disconnec
(MS=V90) = MODULATION SELECT = V9
(H=0) = HANG UP MODEM PHONE (after disconnect

PS: (MS=V90) DETERMINES IS THE SPEED YOU ARE LOOKING FOR

FOR THIS CODE TO WORK YOU HAVE TO MAKE SURE THAT (1)MODEM,(2)DRIVER,AND YOUR (3)IP WILL SUPPORT =V90. IF (1-2-3) ARE YES, THIS WILL SPEED UP YOUR MODULATION FROM YOUR 28.8 bps TO 115.2 bps FROM YOU TO YOUR IP THEN 56K
MAKE SURE YOUR: "Maximum Port Speed" is set at "115200" you will find this on the {MODEM} tab page.
THAT 28.8 bps SOUNDS LIKE AN OLD MODEM OR YOUR USING (AOL)
DON'T FORGET THE (;) THIS ENDS EACH COMMAND, BUT DON'T PUT AFTER THE LAST COMMAND
IF YOU WANT MORE INFO GO TO; http://modemsite.com/56k/v92c.as
Modem commands can get a little complicated good luck, anyway give it a shot you can only learn if you try
