Screensaver turns itself off after a short time, why?

I have it set to activate after 2 minutes. Sometimes it will not activate at
all others it does for about ¼ hour then the desktop shows up again.
My optical mouse is the same one that I used with Windows98 and I had no
trouble there as it does not move!
NOTHING else is running that should cause it to deactivate a screensaver so
why?

Does anyone know or is this another unresolved bug in Windows XP?
Your knowledge would be appreciated.

What are your power settings set for? (particularly the powering down of
the monitor..)

Shenan Stanley the power settings are also unusual!
The screen is set to turn off after only 15 mins & screen saver activation,
2 mins but both are questionable when after more than ¼ hour I come back and
the screen is full blaze it worries me that I may prematurely burn it out?
I often have my getright download manager working but that shouldn't
activate the screen should it? It never used to.
