Jonathan

I have the welcome screen turned off and I'm using the
classic logon. When the screen saver goes to start I get
the following message:

The application failed to initialize properly
(0xc0000142). Click OK to terminate the application.

In the title bar of the error message is scrnsaver.scr.

Does anyone know what's going on?

Hi,

Should be scrnsave.scr (drop that last "r"). Try a different screensaver,
start/run regedit, navigate here:

HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Control Panel\Desktop

Open the SCRNSAV.EXE string in the right-hand pane, change the .scr file to
another one (the default is actually logon.scr, not scrnsave.scr). See if
this helps the problem any.

Well I did some tinkering and got rid of the error message
but know the screen saver goes to start but then it stops
immediately - like someone moved the mouse or pressed a
key on the keyboard.

Hi,

Then there is a background process interfering with its operation. What've
you got loading at boot that might do this?
