screensaver never comes on

I have a P4, 2.4GHZ system with an NVidia video card. My
problem is that my screensaver never comes on. I can
preview it fine, but left to its own the computer will
never activate the screensaver. Any ideas?
 
unplug your mouse and see if it will come on. I had a bad
mouse that would keep it on once.
