Screen Size between laptop and docked monitor

I recently got a new laptop (had one before and didn't
have this problem) and when I dock it, my screen size
(displayable area) on my monitor is larger than what is
displayed when I use my laptop as a standalone. Any
thoughts?
 
Drivers and settings related. I'll bet that the manual for your laptop
has some information relating to it's capabilities.
