Screen Saver

I have a small problem.
It appears that the screen saver on my PC has decided not
to operate any longer. I can change all the settings and
set the differnt types supplied with XP. But nothing
happens. I have set the time from anything 30 mins down
to 1 minute. But the screen saver never seems to want to
start
Can someone give me somme ideas as to what I need to look
for and change to get to work again
