Screen Saver

I have Windows XP v5.1, Home Addition, w/service pack 3 installed. My screen
saver will engage appropriately, then turn off for no apparent reason. It
does not come back on until I've used the computer again. Any suggestions
how to correct this. I've already tried the troubleshooting available on the
help menu.

Check "Power Options" in Control Panel. Go to the Power Schemes tab and set
turn off monitor, turn off hard disks and System standby to "Never" then
click Apply.

"Turn off" was the missing clue.

You monitor (through your chosen XP Power Scheme) is probably set
through the Control Panel, Power Options to Turn off monitor after
some period of inactivity (activity = keyboard, mouse, etc.). Mine
is set to 20 minutes.

My Screen Saver is set to 10 minutes from right clicking the Desktop,
Properties.

A Screen Saver kicking on does not qualify for activity, so after 20
minutes, the screen saver is still running, but I can't see it anymore
since the monitor has switched to standby. It still has power, but it
is using low power... This is not the same as turning your monitor
off with the power button.

When I touch the KB or mouse, the screen saver turns off, probably
quickly, but it takes the monitor a few more seconds to power back up,
so I don't see the screen save at that moment.

Not all hardware supports all the Power Options that are offered, but
most modern setups should handle most of them.
