screen saver

My vista screen saver would not start. After perusing the discussion groups I
found a solution which required me to download a fix from
Microsoft.Apparentely it was a fix for the usb wireless mouse and keyboard.
After the fix my computer went to sleep after 10 minutes and will not wake
up. I cannot even reboot. I can turn the power off but the computer will not
restart. I get one long beep followed by three short beeps and then nothing.
I cannot enter the setup either. Help. What can I do

Beeps have a meaning that varies depending upon motherboard but lets assume
for a moment, it just means no keyboard is connected. Do you have an old
wired mouse and keyboard around or ones you can borrow from someone else?
If not, you might purchase an inexpensive wired mouse and keyboard, you
probably should have these around anyway for just this type of issue. You
can get these dirt cheap.

Anyway, when you get them, with the computer still turned off, plug them in,
then boot the system and see if that gets you going. If it gets you going
you can then try your wireless mouse and keyaboard again.

In most cases it could mean you video card is bad or came unseated. if it's
not a built-in try removing the card and reseating it. Sometimes this works.
Then again it could be something else????

Bob and Michael,

Thanks for your responses. I tried the wired mose and keyboard. No help.
Reseated the video card. No help. This is a brand new one week old system
that was warking perfectly until I downloaded this MS patch. Any other
suggestions. I suppose I could try another video carD.

Thanks

If it's one week old and these suggestions didn't help, I'd call the
manufacturer or take it back to where I bought it and have it replaced. If
that patch was an issue, given the number of wireless mice and keyboards out
there, this newsgroup would be lit up with the issue.
