Screen Saver "Quits"

My screen saver is set to engage at 10 minutes of "idle" time. It has been
working fine until recently. Now, the screen saver will engage, but after
less than 2 minutes my desktop will appear again. Whether or not I am
running programs doesn't seem to make a difference. I use a wired mouse, and
there is nothing jarring it which could account for this. I've changed the
times on the screen saver options, but I get the same problem. I even tried
system restore; the s/s worked properly for about 2 days, but then the same
issue recurred.

Anyone have any advice?

Thanks!

Hi Karen,
my advice would be not to worry about it. Screen savers were intended to
prevent screen burnin and that is no longer a problem on modern monitors so
they are no longer strictly necessary. If you really must fix it-you could
look to see if your network has wake on Lan set or a modem has wake on ring
set. Maybe your mail program connects to the internet to check for new mail?
With Advanced Power Management on modern systems so many things can happen
behind the scenes-it might take you a long time to find what's causing your
problem without much gain to your overall computing experience.
