screen saver performance

When I use any screen saver, it does not run smoothly.
It goes for a couple of seconds, pauses, resumes, and
repeats this cycle continually. It results in a very
jerky implementation of the screen saver. I know this
isn't a big problem in itself (although I like screen
savers), but I am concerned that my whole system may be
performing in a similar way and I'm not getting full
computing power. Does anyone have any ideas what might
be causing this? Thanks.

If it only happens with screen savers then try updating your video card
drivers from the makers website.

Without knowing the full system specs, that may not be the best (or only)
suggestion! Could be RAM, processor speed, background programs running or a
host of other things.

I have a strong feeling that this only became a problem
since switching to Windows XP. Got a new hard drive and
had Windows XP installed on there and then reinstalled
all programs. No other new hardware at that time. I
have lots of RAM. I will look into new video driver as
well as review all processes running. There are a lot
there that I don't know what they are. Thanks for your
assistance.
