Missing Screen Saver Tab

My windows XP is missing the Screen Saver Tab in the display settings window.
I currently have no screen saver - does anyone know a way I could get the
screen saver set up and/or get that tab back?

I used to have vista, but about a year ago when I couldn't handle the bugs
anymore I did a clean install of WinXP.

Hi MJS

The screen saver tab is enabled and disabled via a Registry setting. If
the tab on your system has disappeared, it's likely something turned it
off in the Registry.

Full details are in this Microsoft KnowledgeBase article:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/921049

In summary, check the following two Registry locations:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System

and

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE_\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System

If you find a value named NoDispScrSavPage at either location, either
delete it; or change it to a value of 0. You need to reboot for the
change to take effect.

You shouldn't need to download or use any third-party tools to fix this.
Windows' own built-in Regedit is sufficient.

You'd probably want to do a thorough antivirus and malware scan - the
screen saver may have been disabled by some malicious software.

Hope it helps,
Andrew

Thanks Andrew, this worked perfectly.

*DO NOT* download anything from that fake MVP site. If you do you will have
more trouble than you started with.

Google 'pcbutts1' for more information on this persistent distributor of
malware.

Thanks Andrew, this worked perfectly.

If you did not change the registry value yourself to disable the tab
using regedit or use GPEDIT (not available in XP Home) to change it,
something changed it for you, yes?

You should probably do some scans for malicious software. If it was
malicious software, it may have changed other things you haven't
encountered yet.

This week, I like these:

Download, install, update and do a full scan with these three free
malware detection programs:

Malwarebytes (MBAM): http://malwarebytes.org/
SUPERAntiSpyware: (SAS): http://www.superantispyware.com/
AVG (AVG): http://free.avg.com/
