Screen Saver Password Protect

HI! I have a need to password protect my system and i'm using the
windows (WIN XP Home Edition) sign on screen that is activated when
you use a screen saver. It works as it should when the thing times out
and auto starts the screen saver, but it does not work if i start the
screen saver manually.

I've copied the screen saver that im using to my quick launch pad and
if i manually start the screen saver and then move my mouse to kick it
out, the system does not revert to the sign on screen. It just goes
back to my desktop.

Make sense to anybody and if so do you have a fix? Thanks,

You can't do it that way. When you run a screen saver manually by just
clicking on it, windows just sees it as another program running, just like a
video or game or application, or music, its just a program running. It
doesn't see it as the screen saver cause it was not started by the auto
screen saver function.

As others have pointed out that wont work. Many screen savers have a
selection of keys to activate them. Check if this is the case for yors.

Starting a screen saver the auto way is a different process from running
it like a program; and it is the mechanism of launching it that handles
the password side. So there is no way around if you want both to launch
it at a click *and* have the protection
