Screen saver not working

I have tried all the suggestions on the discussion groups and have not been
able to resolve. I am using a non Microsoft wireless mouse and keyboard. I
cannot find a way to get to the web site to download this "HID Non-user input
filter". Can someone tell me where to find this. I have tried to look on
the Vista downloads, and Optional downloads (I have none!!). I hope someone
can help me . .

You have to go to Windows Update in Control Panel (Classic View) to get the
update. Your wireless mouse|keyboard receiver must be plugged in at the
time. Then click on Scan for Updates. It should get listed as an Optional
Update. To make sure you didn't hide the update in the past, you may have
to choose Restore Hidden Updates, on the left-hand side of the screen.

Thanks, but I have tried this. I have NO hidden updates -not one . . Is
this unusual? What if I suddenly wanted a foreign language or whatever - I
have tried looking on Microsoft support, but not muck luck there either . .

Hidden updates are updates which are chosen to be hidden by the user. There
are no "default" hidden updates, but I thought I'd tell you to check that
list, just to be sure you hadn't hidden it at sometime in the past. As far
as language packs go, you would see those depending on what version of Vista
you have. What version do you have? Too, the language packs were "missing"
for a time a little while back, due to server problems, but I've heard they
have since returned. I have Vista Home Premium, so I don't see those in
Windows Update.

Also, you might check your Update History in Windows Update. Is that "HID
non user data filter" update listed (it won't have a KB number)? You're
right about getting the update on the internet at the Microsoft website. I
don't think it's available as a standalone update...
