Screen saver interferance

I've got a wireless mouse and keyboard that prevents sreen savers from
running on Vista. I am using a Microsoft Wireless Desktop 1000 and I have
downloaded new compatability software. If I unplug the receiving unit the
screen savers run on que. Any suggestions, or just faulty equipment?
