Screen Saver help needed

H

HB

I found some info saying that Vista was released without screen saver
options. Currently my screen saver does not work (no matter what I do), and
all the screen savers listed do not have options. I see the preview, but
nothing else happens. Can you tell me when these options will be released?
Or can you walk me through what I need to do to get it to work?

Thanks, HB

HB,

Right-click on the desktop, choose Personalize, then Screen Saver. I think
you'll find nine...

I did....many times AND it still won't start! I've changed the wait time
to one minute...one minute + later it still hasn't started.

BTW, I should have said no screen saver settings instead of options. When I
choose a saver from the list then click settings, it says "This screen saver
has no options to set." I click apply then OK. I wait and wait - it does
not come on.

What am I missing? Please help.

To you happen to have a wireless mouse?

The Settings button on the Screensavers window just configures a screensaver
if it has further options (like 3D Text). Some screensavers have no further
options (like Bubbles). The important thing is that you choose one from the
dropdown list and then click on Apply, then OK.

If you are using a wireless mouse, post back.

Only '3D Text' and 'Photos' have options here.

The others are simply pleasant to look at.

If you're referring to your own custom screen saver, then it will depend on
how it was written.

Yes, I have a MS wireless mouse! I just read a blog regarding this....I
unplugged it and now my screensaver works like a charm! Now, can you help
me get my printer up and running??

Know of a good wireless mouse I can buy?

Thanks for replying.

Well, plug you mouse's wireless receiver back in (this is important). Go to
Control Panel > Windows Update. Click on Check for Updates. Chose to
install the Optional Hardware Update called "Microsoft HID Non-User Input
Data Filter". Your screensaver, with a wireless mouse, should now work.

What's the name/model of the printer? USB?

Screensaver w/mouse is working like a charm! Thank You!

Printer: HP Photosmart C6150 All-In-One
It is not on USB....we are wireless (Netgear Router).
I've downloaded the updated drivers many times. It works for a day, maybe 2
if I'm lucky, then it goes offline and won't come up again until I download
the drivers again.

That is a pretty fancy printer - 4 ways to connect.
USB 2.0 Hi-speed, Wireless, Bluetooth, Ethernet

If no one helps you here, I would start a new thread, specifying printer
model and wireless connection in the subject. In the body specify the
router model and explain symptoms. Are the router and printer always on or
powered off at night? Might the printer be getting interference in the
wireless signal because of its location, and not be able to recover?

I have an HP Photosmart All-In-One at home. I'm not
sure of the model number, but it also has all those ways
to connect. In getting my XP machine ready to install
Vista on, I went to the HP web site, and found I had to
order the drivers for Vista. There wasn't a download,
but there was a download of an update to the CD. Make
sure you actually have the drivers and not just the update.

When this problem happens, in Control Panel\Printers, does the icon for the
printer dissappear? If the icons not there, try the Add a Printer button in
the Toolbar, and follow the steps for a wireless printer.

If the icon is there, try right-clicking the icon and choosing Properties.
On the Advanved tab, click on New Driver, and find your printer in the list.
Click Next...

Thanks for your reply, Paul.
Router & printer are turned off when not in use.
Router & printer are located in the bedroom (sitting side-by-side). My
husband can print with no problems (Dell laptop w/WinXP) from anywhere in
the house. I, on the other hand cannot (HP Pavillion DV6000 laptop w/Vista
32-bit); no matter where I am in the house. We live in a small single story
house, so it's not like the printer is upstairs and I'm downstairs.

I will wait another day or two and start a new thread.

Thanks again,
HB

New Driver is grayed out.

I've downloaded the following from the HP website:
HP Photosmart Full Feature Software & Driver - date: 3/2007
(this is the one I've downloaded many times)

Have you installed:
Critical update for networked products with Microsoft Vista operating system
dated 04-2007?

That is the kind of info that makes a good post. It rules out so many
things that those trying to help might imagine to be the problem.

I don't recall....probably not. Is my situation (meaning how we're
hooked-up to the printer) considered a "network"? I'll do it if you think
it applies to us.

Given that the printer's icon is there, in Control Panel\Printers, and the
New Driver button is grayed out, I don' think it's a driver issue, but how
your network is set up to discover the printer. Too, is it feasible to just
leave the router on all the time?

OK, after many months of trying to figure out my printer problem - it turns
out to be the Port IP Address. I emailed HP tech support and was given 4
different things to try. Why the IP Address was wrong - I don't know, but
hopefully this has fixed my problem for good (I think I'll be holding my
breath for a while).

Thank you all for replying and trying to help.
