Screen saver has a mind of it's own!

My screen saver only comes on when it wants to. I have tried all of the basic fixes (i.e. rebooting, changing the settings, changing the mouse {I thought it might be sending signals} etc.), but it still only comes on when it wants to. There will be times that it works fine a few times and then it won't work again. Ther also doesn't seem to be any pattern as to when it orks and when it doesn't.
Very annoying litle problem. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
