screen resolution for XP Professional

I tried to change my screen resolution to 1024x768 to load CM4 but every time i slide the bar to the settings my screen splits into several distorted pictures. How do I cure this problem??
 
Chck to see that you are running the latest available drivers for video
card.

Also, check to make sure that your monitor and video cad can do the
resolution you want.

If your still have the problem, please list out your hardware configurations
and active screen resolution.
