Screen refresh/repainting problem

I am having a problem in Excel 2002 where when switching between applications
(i.e., using alt-tab from one workbook to another or to another application)
the screen is refreshing slowly and/or performing odd behaviour with
rewriting the fonts. This problem is only occuring in Excel with or without
a large amount of data. When the screen doesn't fully repaint, I must scroll
down and then back up to cause the data to reappear. In addition, I am
noticing the screen blinking intermitently while working (only in Excel.) It
is though the system can't keep up.

This behaviour began approximately 2 weeks ago. Other than MS updates,
nothing else has changed that I can remember. I have updated the video
drivers to try and correct, but it did not help; checked for viruses,
malware, etc. with no exceptions.

System is an IBM R40 Pentium M with 40 GB HD and 1.5GB of memory. I would
greatly appreciate any help with this problem.

I've experienced this in Powerpoint. I did need to update my graphics drivers
however as a short term fix I increased my hardware acceleration rate (under
the 'troubleshoot' tab of my graphics/display properties).

Thank you for the post. Unfortunately, it did not help. In addition, I am
noticing the problem in various office applications other than excel. So, I
am still having to work with the problem. Our local IT guy claims this
problem is a known MS issue after the latest security update but I cannot
find anything to support his claim.
