Screen is in the middle with black edges

My husband was using the computer and something happened. The screen shrunk
a little leaving black edges. I've tried changing the resolution but it
didn't work. Right now in display settings it says that I have 1024 by 768
pixels and 32 bit color.

Try changing the refresh rate to a lower or higher value and see if you are
able to eliminate the problem.

This sounds more like a hardware issue then software. Do you have another
computer you can connect the screen to make sure the issue follows, or
another screen you can connnect to this computer? If you do, get if it a
shot...

Have you tried making adjustments using the buttons on the
front of your monitor? Consult the documentation that came with
your monitor for instructions on what each button does.

Good luck

Sounds like just adjustments on the monitor. This doesn't really have
anything to do with Windows - it would happen with any OS if the monitor is
reset. Press the menu buttons on the monitor and make size adjustments.

Try changing to a higher resolution. I have seen this before on a laptop
where the resolution had been changed to lower than the screens native
resolution. Try going up a step at a time until you hit the correct one if
you don't know the native resolution of your laptop screen. Hope that helps
