So i know that there is a way to change this because i stumbled across it
somehow before, but i can't seem to fix it now that i've had to reformat my
hardrive. When i disconnect my laptop from the outlet and go to battery
power the screen gets brighter. And when i reconnect it dims. This should
be the opposite i think and i'd like to change it as my computer is usually
plugged in and it's harder to read when dim. Anyone have any suggestions on
how to fix. Thanx. J.

Hello,

Have you installed the drivers in the utility disc that came with your
laptop?

There should be a shortcut key like Fn + (Up Arrow) or Fn + (Left Arrow)
that can adjust your screen brightness.

Failing that, you can also enter BIOS setup if your laptop allows you to
control brightness from there (look for a message like "Press F1 Key to
enter Setup", press it and look for brightness controls).

So WHICH laptop do you have? Didn't think that would be important? Do
you have their power management software installed? If so, have you yet
gone into it to check on the various settings? Could be you have the
display settings screwed up by specifying a higher brightness when on
battery than the display brightness setting for when on A/C power.
