Screen gone blank.

When i boot up my computer i can hear it starting up but the screen stays
black. When i press any option button on the monitor it displays on my black
screen that the system is in safe mode and to press any key on the keyboard,
after i have done this nothing happens.

A restart to safe mode implies a hardware, or driver error. You might try a
Repair setup of XP
If you run an XP "Upgrade"setup, from the original, or "Gold" version of the
setup CD, and you have SP2 installed, it will go into a setup loop, and you
will lose your install. Uninstall SP2, BEFORE you do a Upgrade setup from CD
(that lacks sp2 on it.)
