Screen Goes black and then Comes back

Everytime I add a item to the timeline or a transition the screen flicks to
black a couple of times and then comes back. Thanks in Advance.

I'm getting the same thing - and I'm going nuts!

Anyone have any ideas?

Scenario:
-Open MM to a blank project.
-Drag an avi (or mpg) file (my sizes are 120mb to 400mb) to the collections
area.

The screen flashes / flickers / go blank / black several times, then finally
comes back to MM.

I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling MM.
I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling my video drivers.
I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling DirectX 9.
I've rebooted dozens of times.

However - this did NOT used to happen. I reformatted my machine, and ever
since then, this has been happening.

Hardware:
Dell Inspiron 8200
nVidia GeForce 440 (64mb)
200Gb 7200rpm external drive (connected via 1394)


ANYONE?!?!!
