Screen flickers and text disappears/moves??

I have had this problem on my last three notebook computers from Dell using
Excel 2007. It has been isolated to what appears to be a software problem as
it does not happen in safe mode. In addition, it does happen on the
notebooks built in screen as well as the attached monitor I use.

When I'm using excel (even )with no other program running), the screen will:
1. Flicker often
2. Text will just randomly disappear. I have to alt-tab back and forth
between another screen to get it to reappear.
AND/OR
3. Text will appear on top of itself...
4. I will have two spreadsheets open and I cannot switch between them. I
can minimze the excel screen, but that is all.

I just purchased a new dell with a discrete memory card, etc. thinking maybe
the video demands were just too much, but the exact same problem pops up.

In addition, my home PC, using excel 2007 has never had this issue - UNTIL -
I emailed one of my spreadsheets home and all of a sudden it started doing it
on the spreadsheet I sent home.

This is a brand new PC system for a company that uses good security
software, etc. Two of the three PC's this has happened on were using
different security software (one was for the last company I worked for). No
one else at my company has had this issue.

Dell can't figure it out, and of course Microsoft won't talk to you if the
software is OEM - so there's really no support for this issue to speak of.

I don't have an answer, but FWIW, I often experience several of the issues
you describe. Difference is I'm running on a 5+ year old WinXP box.

Running XL2007 on my newer, much higher horsepower box at home with Vista
Ultimate, I never see those issues.

Hey guys. I don't know if I will be of much help but I am going to try.

I have been trying to find out how to fix this problem on one of my users machines and I just came across an interesting thread that mentions uninstalling the Microsoft Intellipoint software and the issues going away. I just recently installed this on the machine when I gave my user a new mouse and keyboard. Now, I just finished uninstalling the Intellipoint software from the machine and am waiting to hear back from the user to see if the issue has been resolved or not. I will keep you posted.

Well sure enough, IT'S FIXED!!!!

My user reported back immediately that the issue was resolved. It was constantly flickering and after uninstalling the flicker has stopped. She hasn't reported yet if the text showing up on top of other text has been resolved as that was a bit more random, but I am guessing that is fixed as well.

Good luck and I hope I helped?

Did you ever get any clarificiation on this? I been confounded by the issue ever since I bought my "Inspiron E1705" about a year ago.

It is a real usability issue.

Best.

Try reducing Hardware Acceleration on your Graphics adapter.

Display Properties, Settings, Advanced, Troubleshoot. Move the slider
left a notch or two.

I had a Lenovo T61P running Windows XP Professional with Excel 2003 with the excact same problem for many months. This happend on the internal screen and an external screen when docked. I tried turning off all video acceleration, turning off visual effects, disabling video mirror drivers, increasing physical and virtual memory, updating the graphics driver, etc. with no success.

Uninstalling the Intellipoint software seems to have fixed the prolbem, at least after a couple of hours.

Thanks to all for solving this.
