Screen cuts out when try to use DVD-rom

Hi, just recently every time I try to use my dvd-rom the screen cuts out
saying it has lost the signal??? Have checked external connections, but can
find nothing wrong. Have also updated drivers with no result. Please help.

Have you checked internal connections..? Perhaps the data cable has come lose
at the drive or mobo..? Is the optical drive seen in the BIOS..?
