screen blanking

my screen has started going black briefly for anywhere from 1-5 seconds
unpredictably. Anyone have any idea why? i recently installed sp2
 
If the video card overheats this can happen, is it old or new?
Are the drivers for the video/display card up to date?
It might also be you need to adjust your monitors power option properties
settings in display properties?
