Screen blacks out under VISTA

One of my buds went ahead and got himself a new system to run VISTA,
similar to mine. He's got an ATI Radeon 1950 graphics card and says that
every so often while playing the "extras" poker game and sometimes while
in his web browser, his screen goes BLACK for a few seconds and then
comes back.

Connections are tight, he sez.

Any ideas?

That can be a sign that Vista has encountered a program or feature that
is non-compliant with the Aero interface. The screen goes to black when
switching to the standard display, or back to Aero.

However, a warning is also flashed.

Hmmm. I'll pass that along. He didn't mention any warning.

My Nvidia 5200FX does this. It does this ?randomly? with the same set
of applications running over time (now then opening new windows).
The Black lasts about 5 seconds.
Aero enabled.
Vista RC2 5744 x32 1.5G ram

I spoke to my buddy. He changed from AERO to plain old Windows, but it
still happens for a couple of seconds, he says.

i think it is the video driver as mine does it also

We hope you are right. There's nothing he could find on the ATI site
about this, though.

Video drivers are still an issue, my machine does that once in a while and a
box pops up to say that "the Nvidia drivers have stopped responding", or
something to that effect.
Just ignore it, they'll get it right one of these days.
