Screen and all windows are distorted when Excel is open

When I open Excel 2003, the screen blacks out for a few seconds, then
everything on my screen becomes distorted and very pixcel-ie looking. the
Desktop picture, the buttons and all status and task bars are distored with
vaious color transparency and blotches. As long as Excel is open, the screen
is messed up and looks distorted. Then when I close Excel, the screen blacks
out for a moment, then everything else is fine and back to normal.

I'm running Win XP Pro. My machine seems to be the only one with this
 
I don't run xl2003 or WinXP--so take this with a grain of salt.

Any chance it's the video card that's screwed up--maybe a visit to the
manufacturer for a new/fresh driver download?
