Distorted Colors

Hi,

I have a laptop with Vista. While I was browsing the Internet yesterday, my
colors became distorted. The backgrounds on EVERYTHING (Desktop, Internet
(Netscape & IE), Word, Excel, etc.) went black and the words and pictures
became really blurry, distorted and hard to read/see.

I've gone so far as to save all my files and restore my system to the
factory default settings, but that didn't help. I then did a right click on
the desktop, and went to "Graphics Properties," and then "Color Correction."
I then moved all the bars all the way to the left. Now my settings are: Gamma
- (1.0), Brightness - (-60), Contrast - (40). I'm now able to at least see
the words on the screen, but everything is still really bright and fuzzy,
definitely not the colors they should be.

I also went to "Personalize," "Window Color and Appearance," "Open classic
appearance properties for more color options." While there, I selected
"Windows Aero," and clicked apply. That didn't help either.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Sounds like a hardware problem to me. I presume it is still under
warrantee, if it was supplied with Vista. Get in touch with the vendor.

Oh, does it appear like that on POST (when you have just started the laptop,
and before the OS starts to load)?

Since you did a factory restore and the problem still exists, it is
probably your video card that has gone bad and the fact that you were on
the Internet when it happened is a coincidence. Contact the laptop
mftr.'s tech support for repair/replacement.

Thanks. It is still under warranty. I contacted the vendor via email, but got no response. I guess it's time to give them a call BEFORE my warranty expires.
