Scratchy, distorted sound when playing Black & White 2

Precisely as stated in subject
I have SoundMAX Integrated Audio, current drivers, etc... I can play my one
other game, Stronghold 2, with no audio problems.
I'm really computer illiterate, I have to admit. I have no idea what to do
or even how to ask a proper question and describe exactly what is needed for
someone to answer it. It's just that I actually upgraded my memory and
graphics card just to play this dumb game and half the time I can't
understand it because the sound is so screwed up. Can anyone help me?

Go to sound max web site,download the drivers/software,save to desktop,
after,open device mgr,expand the sound tree to the device,R.click,select
uninstall,do not restart computer,make sure all related to soundmax (if
others
are present) get uninstalled,once thru,close out,shutdown computer.Start
computer,once in xp load drivers/software.
