Scheduled Task no longer runs

In Win XP Pro: A scheduled task ran fine for several
weeks, but now it doesn't run. I thought it might be
related to a password issue, so I deleted the task and
user password, then established a new password and re-
created the task. Still no success. Here are the facts:
- I am the Administrator and the only user.
- The task executed properly for several weeks.
- The system date and time are correct.
- The new password works for logon.
- The scheduled task wizard shows that the task is
properly configured.
- If I select, Run, the task executes properly.

I tried to use the advice in the MS Knowledgebase article
# 308558 "How to troubleshoot schedule tasks in Windows
XP", but my PC's results don't match the article. (The
article is for WinXP Pro which I am running.) Details:
- Article: If the status column is blank, it means it ran
and was successful.
- My PC: The Status column is blank, but "Last Run Time"
shows "Never".
- Article: Last Result code of "0x0" means the operation
completed successfully.
- My PC: The task shows, code of "0x0", but, again, the
task did not run and the "Last Run Time" shows "Never".
- Article: Verify that the task Properties show the
Enabled check box is checked and that the program path is
correct.
- My PC: The box is checked and the path must be correct
since "Run" works fine.

Also, I selected "Notify me of missed tasks" (Under
Advanced) and did not receive any such notification.

I would appreciate your help.

I have a few questions for you to answer:-
1) What is written under the Next Time Run column?
2) Is your computer running on batteries?
3) Have you checked the 'wake the computer to run this task' option in
the properties?

Post back and see if we can sort the issue

Answers:
1) The scheduled time for the next day.
2) Destop PC, no batteries
3) Yes, the wake to run has been checked all along.

Additional info: I found upon reboooting that
the "Notify me of missed tasks" apparently notifies you
only on restarting the system. The message informed me
that tasks hadn't run because the Task Scheduling service
was not running. This is confusing since I've checked
all settings under Computer Management as instructed in
knowledgebase article #308558. I also ran msconfig to
verify that Task Scheduler was listed as running under
the Services tab. It looks fine. Please recall that
this functioned fine for several weeks.

I appreciate your fast reply to my posting.

Can you recall doing something to your system in the time scheduled task
stopped functioning? Does this happen with all tasks or just one. I remember
encountering the same problem, the difference was that my 'last time run'
and 'next time run' would show weird dates, like the 'last time run' would
show a future date and the 'next time run' would show a past date, but I
remember despite my best efforts I couldn't find a solution, it instead
stopped doing it. Trying creating a new user account and then setting the
task for that account, see if this helps.

Try deleting the task scheduler log file. The process is
supposed to wrap the file after reaching 32K, However in
my case I had to delete the file.
