Scanning photos via Photo Gallery

According to the Help menu in Photo Gallery (see below) there is a "Photo"
profile in the Scan Dialog box in addition to the Documents and other
profiles but I didn't see any. As a result there are no default settings for
scanning pictures. I ended up using the paper size closest to the picture
size but then had to crop out the extra white spaces. I am using an HP v40
all in one machine.

"In the New Scan dialog box, click the Profile list, and then click Photo.
The default settings for scanning a picture are automatically displayed."

Just wondering if anyone had experienced the same problem and if there is a
"fix".

Thanks.

I believe the drivers for your printer/scanner have to support this. For
example, I have an HP 6310 which is listed in Scanners and Cameras but if I
click "Scan Profiles," I receive a message "No scanner was detected..." I
can, however, use the interface provided by the Vista compatible HP software
that I downloaded from HP.

In other words, with the right software, I can scan and handle all necessary
functions, I just can't use the Scanners and Cameras wizard.

According to the HP site with regard to your All-In-One at the download
drivers section under Vista, the driver that ships with Vista is the only
one currently available. The do have instructions for scanning from the
photo gallery. Assuming you followed those instructions, it might that the
supplied drivers don't support the function you are trying to use. There is
a notation and disclaimer at the HP site about this:

Note, while these drivers shipped with Vista, they were provided by HP and
it would be HP that would have to provide updates if there are going to be
any though the above page seems to imply that isn't going to happen.
