Scanning computers for patches.

A friend of mine told me there was a dos utility to scan a
subnet and it would produce a list of workstations that
either had the latest patch (patched or unpatched). Does
anyone know about this utility and where I could download
it?

I made a GUI for this tool that might have made it more user friendly.
