Scanner Problems

Hello
I have a Dimension 8400 running XP SP2. I had a Dell 922 all in one
connected to it which worked flawlessly until it gave up the ghost. I
replaced it with a Dell 964 all in one but could not get it to scan properly.
Messages like unable to initialize scanner or scan utility cannot be started.
I replaced this with an epson perfection 4490 and I cannot get this to scan
either.I get the same errors and the buttons on the scanner do nothing. The
two dell all in ones have been uninstalled. I have uninstalled the epson
software and reinstalled it to no avail. The epson is connected via usb
direct to the computer with no hub in between.
Thanks in advance

Strange, I have a 4990 and it works. The instructions are very specific as
to how to setup the scanner (proper sequence of software and physically
connecting the scanner to the PC). Sometimes the Twain drivers can be an
issue if they are not the correct ones or not installed properly.

For removal of drivers see:
http://forums.techguy.org/digital-photography-imaging/142241-removing-twain-drivers.html
And Epson driver download site:
http://www.epson.com/cgi-bin/Store/..._UseBVCookie=yes&oid=58611&infoType=Downloads

I've had no problem with Epson's Tech support on other questions, maybe they
can solve yours.

I followed the instructions to the letter and it still wont work. The
scanning part of the 964 did not work either. I'm starting to get desperate.

Do you have anything else you can connect to the same USB port to verify
that is good?
