You posted too much unimportant information.

How does the scanner connect to the PC ?

USB ?
Parallel Port ?
SCSI ?

Hi Ann,

In Device Manager > Ports, you should have listed an ECP Printer Port (LPT1) and it
appears you do not.

Have you seen this? If no, read it carefully and follow the instructions as
mentioned by the manufacturer.

BTW, the manufacturer is Pacific Image Electronics, not Pacific Imaging. Providing
proper info helps others help you.

It is connected to the Parallel port, piggy-backed on the Printer, I got the
computer to recognize the printer, but can not get it to recognize the
scanner.

Brian,

Sorry for the 'ing',
I have tried that, several times, to no avail. My scanner is piggy backed
to the printer, as I only have one Parallel port. I have corrected the BIOS,
to got the printer to work, but the Scanner is a no go. I have Googled the
problem and searched the Knowledge base, but each solution is making it more
confussing. I now have the New Hardware Wizard wanting to install the printer
everytime I restart the computer.
Everything was working fine until I upgraded to SP2.

Windows XP does NOT support periphey connected to the parallel port.

You need to replace ther csanner with a unit that supports; USB, FireWire and/or SCSI.

To David and Brian,
I finally fixed the problem, almost.
After contacting HP amd Pacific Image, and following everyone's
instructions, to no avail. I deleted everything. I then;
reset the BIOS for the printer port for ESP,
downloaded the HP drivers, and the scanner drivers, and new Twain drivers,
I then re installed everything one at a time, and everything works.
Except every time I restart the computer, I have to re install the printer.
KB said there might be something wrong with the registry, but I would rather
have a root canal than deal with that, so I just install.
Thanks for your help.

Do you mean EPP? The article mentioned setting it in the BIOS. Just think if our
software/hardware had ESP, we wouldn't need keyboards or mice. ~[|8o}

What KB article?
Thanks for your help.

You're welcome.
