Explorer exe crashes when I open a folder or view drives in my
computer.

My system has been deeply scanned by a number of mail
ware scanners and I run NOD32 AV, A2squared, Spyguard
and Spyware Blaster all the time.

The system does not often seem to make a Dr Watson log
but the one time it did recently I found the following fault.

Application exception occurred:
App: E:\WINDOWS\Explorer.EXE (pid=928)
When: 5/2/2006 @ 10:10:52.218
Exception number: c0000005 (access violation)

FAULT ->010139f8 ff30 push dword ptr [eax]
ds:0023:0000001c=????????

The full log is available if required.

What happens is that there is hard drive activity then the
Explorer needs to re start message is displayed
I usually click on debug or send report.

The desktop will be re-drawn but some sys tray icons don't
come back.

A few times I had the DEP (data execution prevention) error
come up saying that it had stopped Explorer! but this has not
happened recently.

There is also another problem but I am not sure if its related.
This is when I am connected to my BB ISP files take a long
time to open and the right click menu takes upwards of 20
seconds to display.
Come off line and all is fine.
I have looked at my CPU usage during this problem but it is
still very low, <5%.

Yes, interesting!

I will look at the network issues if I can.
Not sure what DivX is or does.

Thanks

Interesting, I found a link to the e-mail prog on my old PC via the network.
I deleted it and the right click delay seems to have gone!

Now I need to deal with the crashes.

Apparently not one thing causes this type of error. Here some things to look
at.

Interesting, I found a link to the e-mail prog on my old PC via the
network. I deleted it and the right click delay seems to have gone!

Now I need to deal with the crashes.

See these.

Right-click is slow or weird behavior caused by context menu handlers
http://windowsxp.mvps.org/slowrightclick.htm

Right-click is extremely slow only when Network is enabled
http://windowsxp.mvps.org/rcdelay.htm

Right click causes an error and crashes Explorer.exe after installing
Windows XP SP2

In Mike <[email protected]> hunted and pecked:

Here are my system details:

Here's for one possibility...

Try again after disabling \Autorun.inf processing for hard drive
volumes (or all disk typesm if not a HD). Via Regedit, search for
NoDriveTypeAutoRun and set the first byte it as follows...

00 - allow \Autorun.inf processing on all device types
FF - block \Autorun.inf on all device types
95 - lame Win9x default value; processes CD and HD
91 - lamer XP default value; as above, and more
9D - allows CD, but blocks HD (recommended)
BD - blocks CD and HD

Each bit in this byte corresponds to a device type.
