scanner for 35mm black and white

I am looking for relatively inexpensive scanner to scan only b&w
negatives. I am not going to scan large amounts of negatives or make
prints bigger than 8x12.

I am choosing between Konica Minolta DiMAGE Scan Dual IV and Nikon
Coolscan V ED. I am leaning toward Konica because it's $300 cheaper and
I was told that Minolta is better for b&w (has something to do with the
light source (Fluorescent Tube vs LEDs).

On the other hand, I've heard Minolta users complainig about bad high
levels of digital noise in the red channel. This made me thinking if
Nikon still might be a better choice.

I would appreciate any opinion.

I own a Minolta Scan Dual IV, and I do not have a complaint about scanning
Black and White Negatives. Black and White Negatives look best when scanned
at the maximum resolution of this scanner, 3200 DPI.

To get the most from the Minolta Scan Dual IV, use the TWAIN interface via a
image editor, instead of the stand alone DiMAGE Scan Dual4 Utility.
The Scan Dual4 Utility does have one feature that is nice, it can autoname
scan files. No control over the number of digits for serial number though.

The DiMAGE Scan Dual4 - Easy Scan Utility is crap. Too much automation.
