Scanjet 3970

I have a new HP Scanjet 3970 which appears to work fine, but so very, very
slowly, having to go from one adjustment to the other until it finally
produces a file......

Am I missing something here?

My Scanjet 2200c was so much faster, but admittedly not as versatile......

Any input would be so much appreciated.....

I retired my old hp5100C when it began skipping lines, and bought an
hp3970.

The scanner works just fine, but the software SUCKS AS BAD AS I'VE
EVER SEEN :-(
