I am running XP Pro and sometimes the computer resets its-self but does not
do a check-disk on bootup___I feel that I have to do a complete disk check
which takes approx 1 hour___It does not happen very often, but I wonder what
I can do to get the computer to automatically scan the disk when this
happens

With Kind Regards from Willofaustralia

Hi,

For the disk checker to run automatically, the dirty bit must be set. Simply
resetting a system does not always warrant the use of this tool. You can do
it manually, but that's like overhauling the motor when all you need to do
is change the plugs - overkill as it were. Also, a disk check may take
significantly longer than an hour depending on the drive size and amount of
data it contains.

Resetting is often the result of an overheating condition. Check that all
the fans, and in particular the cpu fan, are clean and that heat sinks are
not clogged with debris. Make sure vents are clear and that proper air flow
is not restricted (don't put the drive tower in a cabinet as often happens
with many pc desks).
