Scandisk problem

T

Tony Winyard

I am having trouble running scandisk for the last few
days, whereas previously it ran without problems.

On the Check Disk Options, I ticked both 'Automatically
Fix File System Errors' and 'Scan For And Attempt
Recovery Of Bad Sectors'

It then gives me the usual message:
"The disk check could not be performed because the disk
check facility needs exclusive access to some windows
files on the disk. These files can be accessed only by
restarting windows. Do you want to schedule this disk
check to occur the next time you restart the computer?"

To which I always click 'Yes'

But now when I restart I receive the following message on
startup:

Checking file system on C:
The type of the file system is NTFS
Cannot open volume for direct access
windows has finished checking the disk

Is anyone able to offer any ideas:
..

Hi Tony,

Boot the WinXP CD, load the Recovery Console. Run chkdsk <drive> /r from the
command prompt.
