Scan Disk

Hello,

I need to run scan disk however it will not go beyond the part of Scanning:
“compress old filesâ€. I did run scan disk during both safe mode and regular
mode. However it gets stuck there I’ve let it run for a good several hours
both ways.

Before running scan disk I did clear out cookies, temp internet files, and
offline content, cleared history not just through IE but through the Adelphia
Freedom Pack.
Which includes a firewall, anti virus, anti spy, pop up blocker all in one
convenient package

I also ran the anti virus, anti spy before trying the disk clean up.

Any suggestion? Please let me know if I need to supply more info. its XP
home'02 SP1

Thanks,

Leron

hello,

fantastic that first option worked, but i still have a question

do i need to have VolumeCaches.reg file back after it cleans up? if so
should i restore it i think not? or will a new one be automatically created?

thanks for your help

The Volume Cache should still be there.
You deleted Compress Old Files Registry key.

i expanded
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\VolumeCaches

compress old files was a folder which contained (default) prioirty and
stateflags

so i deleted this folder (i guess its called a reg key?)

after that delete the back up from the desktop and no more?
so that key is no longer there will it ever come back up?

Typing in Start Run

regsvr32 dataclen

Restores it to factory state. Which means Compress will also come back.

It should not come back unless you reinstall Windows.
There is nothing else you need to do, all should be OK.
