Scan Disk problem

I am having problems with the scandisk [checkdisk] program
of my WinXP Pro.Recently I converted my fat32 file system
to NTFS using the built in command through XP's command
prompt.Since then I cannot scan my NTFS partition i.e "C:\"
drive [my other partition is Fat 32 and I CAN scan
that].When I restart the PC the familiar scandisk screen
greets me, but the message there says CANNOT ACCESS DISK
FOR DIRECT ACCESS......,Then its says finished checking.

I tried all scandisk options including the unmounting of
volume at boot,but nothing works.

PLEASE TELL,AS WHAT TO DO..................

Cannot open volume for direct access.
The type of the file system is NTFS.
IFSUTIL: Can't open drive. Status returned = c0000043.
Windows has finished checking the disk.

Maybe a work around here:-
JSI Tip 7079_ You receive 'Cannot open volume for direct access' when Chkdsk runs
during Windows XP startup
http://www.jsiinc.com/SUBO/tip7000/rh7079.htm
When you schedule the Chkdsk utility to run a startup, you receive an error similar
to: Cannot open volume for direct access.
