Is Scan Disk in XP?

Thad Barnes

Is there "ScanDisk" in Windows XP?

I can find Check Disk... but not scan disk.

I want the "surface scan" option that it appears
Check Disk does not have.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Checkdisk has replaced Scandisk in Windows XP. The surface scan you are
referring to is called 'Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors' in
Checkdisk. Pretty clear, huh? (;->

Thad;
Scandisk is now Error-checking (chkdisk).
Open My Computer, double-click the My Computer icon on the desktop.
Right click your hard drive | Properties.
On the Tools tab, under Error-checking, click Check Now.
Under Check disk options, check both boxes.
You have to reboot for Error-checking to run.

For a peek at the log.
Start | Run | Type: eventvwr | OK
Look in System | Listed under Winlogon
