Says "can't connect" -- but it is connected

T7700, Vista, Sony laptop, Intel 4965AGN

When selecting a new network (Connect to...) which I
know is functional, this unit will say "...taking longer
than usual..." and then "...cannot...". Diagnosis
generates no result.

HOWEVER -- the signal strength meter shows that it
quickly connects, and wireless apps do work properly.

What idiotic error did I make in setting this up?

There is no such thing as wireless applications in the context that
you're talking about. Either the computer is connected to the WAP device
and applications like IE and Windows Mail, etc can access the Internet
or they cannot do it.

I would say that it's a bad connection at some point and then it turns
good, and the connection is finally made. There was this Linksys
unsecured wireless network in the area I could connect to, and
sometimes, I couldn't connect to it. The taking longer than usual
message was displayed in either case. On the other hand, the WAP that I
normally used gave no such problems.

I guess in this case, if I were you, I wouldn't worry about it, as long
as the machine is connecting, and the machine can access the Internet. I
know that Vista doesn't play well with some wireless equipment
manufactures.

Thank you.
In this case, the notification of problem persists and
never goes away, though the computer is connected and
properly functioning. It's just some sort of internal
communication error, I suppose, where the left hand
doesn't talk to the right.

Perhaps this is just one of those mysteries not meant to
be solved...
