internet connection my ethernet connection says limited. I contacted my
service provider and could not figure out nothing. Im using the same

Your router may have a different "SSID" than the "Workgroup" you are a
member of. The XP machine will probably hit the router at the address
http://192.168.0.1 and you can see what SSID it uses, then put that in the
workgroup name of the wireless laptop. start orb, type: sysdm.cpl

What IP does the computer have? If it starts with 169.xxx.xxx.xxx then that
is a limited connection IP. That IP will allow the machine to access other
machines on a LAN. But the 169.xxx.xxx.xxx IP will not allow the computer to
access the Internet.

You can try IPconfig /release and IPconfig /renew to see if the IP release
and you get a DHCP IP from the router, like the XP machine has. But
sometimes, that 169 IP will be locked, which means that the TCP/IP Stack has
been hosed, and the stack needs to be reset.

Can you explain these directions a little better because im lost.

Josh,

Print the replies you received from Mr. Ferguson and Mr. Arnold. Their
advice is correct. Call your internet service provider and repeat to them
the advice you have printed out. Your ISP will understand everything you
have been told. They should be able to get you online quickly.

Most likely, this is what this person has to do, if the machine is holding
onto the 169. IP when the wireless and wire NIC(s) are trying to be use with
no connection. Both connections use the same TCP/IP, and if it is hose for
one, it's hosed for the other one too.
