'Saving your Settings' message at logoff, wont dissapear

Hi all,

Im running a laptop with w2k sp4 installed, and for a
while now it takes me about 6-7 mins to shut down my
system.
When i take the option to shutdown the system seems to
close normally until the message 'Saving Your Settings' is
displayed. The message remains there for approx 3-4 mins
and then displays the 'Windows is shutting down' for
around 30 seconds, then the laptop shuts down.

I have searched everywhere to find clues to the problem, i
have found this article which describes my problem
identically http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?
scid=kb;en-us;814770 but it didnt solve my problem. SP4 is
installed but this also didnt help. Has anyone got any
idea?

Many thanks

goto Control Panel>Add/Remove Programs > Change/Remove Programs and see if
Q329170 is
listed as an update if it is remove it.

plus

start > run > gpedit.msc > Computer Configuration> Administrative Template
System > Logon > Maximum retries to unload and update user profile ... set
enabled and to say 5 ... default if not configured is 60!!

There appears to be a hotfix available from MS (thanks Neo)
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;814770

but you will have to telephone MS to order it.
