saving with dv-avi looks lower quality than default option??

Hello all,

I'm getting close to finishing my first video. It's about an hour
long. At present it's split into 4 smaller projects and I'm saving
them to movie format individually, with a view to then combing them
before burning to dvd. They save ok in about 40 minutes each.

When viewing a saved movie on my pc, how come the supposedly lower
quality default option looks much better than when I save as dv-avi?
The latter has much larger file size and bit rate, yet doesn't look as
good.

I am comparing them when both played full screen. Is this the problem?
If played on a smaller window the dv-avi looks good.

Regardless of how it looks on my pc, will the dv-avi give the best
quality for my dvd, or is there a problem somewhere?

Thanks for any help!

Winny,

The true test will be playing it on your DVD/TV.... You still have to go
through the conversion to MPEG2 before seeing it on TV.... the DV-AVI to
MPEG2 conversion might offer better quality than WMV to MPEG2.
