Is it possible to write all Windows Updates on disk for use in case of
reformat which becomes necessary when you are hit by a Blaster ?
Any advise in this regard will be appreciated.
Thanks,
Farid

Security updates are available on ISO-9660 CD image files from the Microsoft Download
Center
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/913086

You can also download individual updates from the Catalog and save to be installed later.
http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/catalog/en/default.asp

Click Add button for each update you want to download. Once you have what you want, Click
the “Go To Download Basket” link. Type in or browse to the location where you want the
updates saved to and then Click the “Download Now” button.
Once downloaded, you can then burn them to CD.

For security and other patches released for a given month :
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/bulletin/ms##-***.mspx
Replace ## with the two-digit year
Replace *** with the three character month abbreviation

Providing there are releases for that month, you will see the list of "critical"
"important" patches for that month
Check on the 2nd Tuesday of each month - later in the day.

Farid,

If you download the ISO's like the other user suggested then you get all the
updates for all Windows platforms. So, downloading gigabytes of dta for a
few megabytes you need.

The best thing you can do is go to Windows Update, scan your computer for
available update then do 1 of 2 things:

1) Go here: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=8973 You can then choose
the search options for XP... & you can specify a folder to download to. If
will create the directory & then subdirectories with the updates in them.
All you have to do is then copy the entire folder to CD/DVD. THIS USED TO BE
THE OLD CORPORATE WAY OF USING WINDOWS UPDATE

2) Goto http://www.microsoft.com & search for that particular KB number
(including KB at the beginning). Then you can download the redistributable.

I hope this helps,

Google for slipstream windows xp
Slipstreaming is a process of creating a new image of your WXP installation
CD which can include any updates you want included, including enitre service
packs. As you learn about slipstreaming you will learn how to find out what
updates you need and how to download them for later use.

Can I get it without being bound by some contract with Microsoft? If so,
How?
-Paul Randall

Paul,

I am not sure. Microsoft just send me the free CD's in the post.

One thing you could do is to buy one off Ebay for 99p + postage. Only get
one from 100% people or min 99.6 upwards

Gordon,

You have to search through the Windows XP listings

I can create an ISO from my disc but people on here will say don't
download... because it will be unsafe. Plus I have to find it amongst the
MSDN Subscription/Technet discs. Let me look

These discs are superb too

this is what you're looking for:

http://www.autopatcher.com/

in left pane under "current releases", click "Autopatcher XP".

Yes, it's a big download, but it does what you want: apply all hotfixes
(and much more) since SP2, in one fell swoop. And you control it, of
course, choosing what it should update and what to skip.

Well worth having, use it right after a fresh (re)install, reboot, then
visit WU only for the very latest updates.

Someone already suggested that, but for me either the install kit from
Microsoft or download manually... better than downloading a thirdparty tool
