Saving Windows Update history log

If the file %windir%\WindowsUpdate.log is of no help, repost to
news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsoft.public.windowsupdate
 
Copy it to the My Documents folder. It will not be written to there.
Leave the original copy where it is located, WINDOWS.

Why do you want to preserve it ?
BTW, all successful updates are logged to the ReportingEvents.log that
is located in WINDOWS\SoftwareDistribution
