I can restore my HD to the condition it was
when it left the factory three years ago. But
there have been many updates since then. Can
the updates be saved and run again?

Can I save the updates to CDROM before I
re-install Windows XP Home Edition? And then
run them again on the re-installed windows?

Thanks,
Charles

Charles;
Are you referring to Windows Updates?
The installed Windows Updates can not be saved for reuse.
But updates can be downloaded from the Windows Update Catalog, burned to CD
and reused as desired, Step 1 on this page:

From the www3.telus.net I ended up at
http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/catalog/en/default.asp
The instructions are to start > all programs > right click
'windows update' then right click "run as...". From there it
gives two choices:
(a) charles cashion
(b) the following user
I first tried me, but it rejected it.
I tried 'administrator' without password and it rejects it.
I do not have a password in-place for either me or admin.

What I really want to do is download from the Windows
Update Catalog and burn it to a CD.

Thanks,
Charles

www3.telus.net led me to http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=316524
You receive an "Administrators only" error message when you
try to visit the Windows Update WEb site..."
I have done method 1 and method 2 and method 3. The first three
methods were executed, but I still cannot get into the catalog.
When I get to method 4 step 4, I am suppose to click the security
tab. There is no security tab.

HELP!

Thanks,
Charles

At the bottom of http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=316524 there is
a note that indicates that says Admin is only available in XP Home
when logged into SAFE mode. When I logged into SAFE mode, and chose
"Administor" I then found that I could not access update.microsoft
without running C:\Windows\system32\wupdmgr.exe.
BUT
C:\Windows\system32\wupdmgr.exe cannot be run in SAFE mode.
Tnx,
Charles
